Babies develop motor skills much earlier than verbal skills; therefore, using sign language enables them to communicate much sooner than babies who do not sign. Studies have shown that lack of communication and the need to express their needs can lead children to frustration and tantrums. Children who sign are better equipped to express themselves more clearly and so, the level of frustration for baby and parents is dramatically reduced!
Will signing delay speech development? In fact, quite the opposite.
Research shows that babies who sign begin talking much sooner than non-signing babies. Using American Sign Language (ASL) with your child can stimulate intellectual development. In fact it has been proven that children who use sign language actually do better on IQ tests!
